Fort Worth Area Construction Accident Reminder of Dangers Facing Workers

A recent Fort Worth-area construction accident highlights the dangers facing construction workers.  Three workers were burned in a North Richland Hills house fire Monday morning when a paint thinner caught fire.  The construction workers were reportedly refinishing the floors in the home when the paint thinner caught fire, according to North Richland Hills fire officials.  The men jumped into the swimming pool on the property to extinguish themselves, fire officials said.  Two of the men were airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital with burns covering 80 percent of their bodies, and a third was transported by ambulance. The conditions of the men were unknown.

Construction jobs are dangerous – injury and fatality rates are much higher among construction workers than the national average.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 1,000 construction workers are killed every year on the job.  In some cases involving construction accidents, worker’s compensation may be the injured worker’s only remedy. However, if the construction company employing the construction worker is not a worker’s compensation subscriber, or if the injury is caused by some third party (i.e. a worker for another contractor or a dangerous condition on the premises) the employee is entitled to file suit against the third party to redress the damages resulting from his injuries. If you or a loved one have been involved in a construction accident, you should visit with a personal injury attorney who can answer your questions and advise you of your legal rights relating to the construction accident.
